Selection Process
To get selected in the BPSC exam, one has to go through the following stages.
- preliminary examination
- main exam
- Interview
After qualifying these three stages, you will be selected on the basis of the final merit list in the post selected by you.
BPSC Exam Pattern
- Prelims – There is a multiple choice type paper of 150 marks.
- Mains – There are 4 descriptive papers out of which 1 is qualifying + 3 merit ranking paper.
- Interview – It will be of 120 marks.
The exam conducted by BPSC is offline, if you want to give this exam, then you should know that there are total 5 papers in which the first paper is pre, BPSC Pre exam is given by all the applied candidates. But the next four exams will be given by the same candidate, who will pass in the BPSC Pre Exam.
The candidates will have to clear all the stages of examination to be placed in the merit list, in which pre and main examination will be taken in written form and the qualified candidates will be interviewed as per merit.
Pre exam will be of qualifying type, candidates qualifying prelims exam will be called for main exam, marks of pre exam will not be counted in final merit.
Mains exam will be of 900 marks, the candidate who will pass in mains exam will be called for next stage interview, interview test is of 120 marks.
So let us tell you that the final merit is prepared on the basis of 1020 marks.
After clearing the BPSC Pre exam candidates will be considered eligible for Mains exam.
The questions in the exam will come in both Hindi and English languages.
This stage will be of qualifying type.
There is no provision of negative marking in this exam.
For each question 5 options will be given, out of which one will have to choose the correct option.

The candidates who clear the Pre stage will be considered eligible for the BPSC Mains exam, the commission calls the candidates for the mains exam, about 10 times the vacant recruitment.
- The questions of General Studies will be in both Hindi and English languages.
- Hindi subject is a qualifying paper, you just have to clear it.
- It is mandatory to get at least 30 marks out of 100 marks in Hindi subject.
- Hindi subject number will not be added in the final merit.
- Final merit will be made on the basis of only 3 subjects of Mains.
Interview
- The candidates who qualify the main exam are called for the final stage of the exam i.e. interview.
- The interview is of 120 marks.
- The final merit is prepared on the basis of a total of 1020 marks (120 marks for interview and 900 for main exam).
